Six Simple Ideas to Help Others

Simple ideas that give incredible results

This native flower at Evergreen about to release its first seed just has to be its own quiet self to do something incredible today.

I ordered tulip bulbs online this year and when they arrived there was a calendar included. In it, I came across this quote from Leo Buscaglia:

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

I’d never heard of Leo Buscaglia, so I looked him up. He was an American professor at the University of Southern California who became known as Dr. Love because of his books and classes on this subject. Buscaglia was the one who stated that humans need five hugs a day to survive, eight for maintenance, and twelve to thrive.

Six Simple Ideas to Help Others

So, if you want to do something incredible today, do one of the following:

  • Give someone a hug when you greet them. Then hug them again when you say goodbye. (This will give them 2 of 5.)

  • Gently touch someone to show you care.

  • Smile at someone.

  • Say a kind word to someone.

  • Give someone a sincere compliment.

  • Listen to someone, even if you think you haven’t got the time.

While scientists discover what’s out in space, engineers design bridges to span massive expanses of water, architects dream up even taller buildings, and despots plan our destruction, let’s focus on saving humanity, one human at a time.

Turn someone’s life around by showing them you care.

Another moving quote from Buscaglia:

Don’t brood. Get on with living and loving. You don’t have forever.

With love, Marlane
