Inspiration for your life

A soft watercolour of a cloud, using pinks, blues, purples and yellows.
We are like passing clouds, a whisper in eternity. Artwork by Merri Ainsworth for our latest book, "What the Wind Told Me".

Here is an excerpt from one of the chapters in my latest book: What the Wind Told Me: 21 Inspirational Messages. This one talks about the fact that you are a breath of wind.

*

I stand under a wide summer sky, embraced by a soft wind.

The wind moves across my skin, ruffles my hair, fills my ears, tugs at t-shirt and jeans. These physical sensations caused by the wind remind me that I am a part of everything.

We normally see ourselves as self-contained, a solid and individual mass on two legs, separate from everything else.

We go further and define ourselves by our name, age, height, weight, our house, job, car, skills, family and friends.

And during our brief years on Earth, we juggle and struggle to maintain the illusion that we are independent of everything else, and in charge of what happens to us.

I am me, we say to ourselves, and for some strange reason we find this comforting.

But what if we were to change how we perceive ourselves?

What if we saw no difference between ourselves and a breath of wind, a weed by the wayside, a grain of sand on the shore, a cumulus cloud, a piece of pear?

At an elemental level, we are no more than any of these things, and no less.

What if we were to regard ourselves as an integral part of the eternal arising and dissolving of evolutionary forces beyond our control? What if, instead of sensing ourselves as a limited thing with a beginning and an ending, we sensed ourselves in the context of eternity?

One of the secrets of living a happy life is to live in the context of eternity.

What happens when you live in the context of eternity?

  • You sense yourself as a part of an incredible process of flow.

  • You sense you are a part of everything, and everything is a part of you.

  • You notice more, appreciate more, concentrate more.

  • You take more chances and are more spontaneous.

  • You feel more alive than you ever did before.

  • You understand there’s nothing you need to cling to.

  • You feel less important, less fearful, less restricted.

  • You discover that every moment has its own meaning.

  • You are grateful to be here, experiencing physical life.

Inspiration for Life

Stand under a wide summer sky, embraced by a soft wind.

Sense yourself as an integral part of the eternal arising and dissolving of evolutionary forces beyond your control.

You are a breath of wind. A whisper in eternity.

Here is a quote from that lively poet Walt Whitman:

Each of us inevitable, Each of us limitless – each of us with his or her right upon the earth, Each of us allow’d the eternal purports of the earth. Each of us here as divinely as any is here.
