You've Got the Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night
That's enough to be going on with

While preparing his breakfast yesterday, Rob sang the lines ‘I got the sun in the mornin’ and the moon at night’. Having forgotten the rest of the words to the song, he repeated them many times, and the simple truth they held stuck with me for the rest of the day.
This song, written in 1946 by Irving Berlin for the musical Annie Get Your Gun, is a delightful example of someone filled with gratitude for things we usually take for granted. And as the song says, these things can’t be bought or sold. They’re given to us for free day and night and if we take the time to notice them, they fill us with wonder.
Here are some of the words that Rob forgot:
Sunshine
Gives me a lovely day
Moonlight
Gives me the Milky Way
We get too complicated in our needs. We want and expect too much. We’re easily disappointed in life. Feel deprived, resentful or ungrateful.
But look!
Look up! Look down! Look around! Look within!
We have trees for shade, ground under our feet, wind on our face, water falling from the sky, clouds teasing our imagination and our little hearts beating like billy-o day in and day out.
And we have the sun in the morning and the moon at night.
Let’s sing about these things.
With love, Marlane
